Wisdom

October 10 –
One thing The Project teaches is that getting on in this life is mainly mastering yourself. To master ourselves, we must possess the wisdom that comes from knowing ourselves. This wisdom comes from looking deep inside our hearts and recognizing the life we are meant to live.

Our hearts are telling us where to go, and our instincts are telling us how to get there.

Touching our inner self is not always easy. Every day, there are seventy times seven distractions whose sole purpose is to keep us from knowing ourselves. Those with self-mastery can recognize and sidestep – or even eliminate – these distractions.

Wisdom equals self-mastery, and self-mastery means we have overcome the biggest obstacle to the life we are meant to lead: ourselves. When we have overcome ourselves – when we are following our hearts and no longer fitting into the slots others have assigned us – we are on our path and living the life we were put on this planet to lead.

September 5 –
As we like to say here at The Project, there are two types of people in this world: those who get on in this life and those who do not.

For everyone who does, it starts with the wisdom that comes from knowing what they are about, from following the dictates of their inner self. For those who do not, it begins with ignoring the dictates of their inner self.

All success begins with a plan, because few summit mountains they did not try to climb. The biggest successes start with plans that come from the heart because our hearts know exactly where we are meant to go in our lives. Those who go places – those who are maximizing their talents – listen to what their heart is telling them.

Some make their time serve them and some squander their time here. The wisdom that comes from knowing what you are about makes the difference.

Last time in the Wisdom blog, we noted that wisdom is nothing more than putting knowledge to work for you. An aspect of that is having the wisdom to know what to block out and what to let in.

As a general rule, things from the outside can be superfluous, and those working The Project have learned to stop reacting to external factors. They have learned that the more they take in and react to outside stimuli, the more they distance themselves from their inner self.

It takes wisdom to know what you are meant to do with your life and how you are to get there, and those on The Project learn to listen to their heart because they know outside influences only produce distractions on their way to the life they were put here to live.

And you know what? It doesn’t matter what that life is, either. All of us were issued assorted and varied talents at birth, and all that matters is that we live from the heart and maximize those talents. When we succeed in our hearts, we have reached our summits.

Friends, let’s talk a little bit about wisdom itself. It can be an intimidating concept, as some associate it with old men with long beards, advanced degrees, and big words few understand. It can be those things, of course, but wisdom is much more than that and is accessible to everyone.

At its core, wisdom is nothing more than putting knowledge to work for you. And for those on The Project, the only real knowledge is knowing yourself. It is why wisdom is the lead element of The Project, because without knowing ourselves, without knowing what we were put on this planet for, courage and patience are of little use.

Gaining knowledge – or of ourselves, of others, of nature – should never end, and those on their path refuse to stagnate and try to withdraw every possible benefit from a situation. This is a requirement of your path because – as ponds eventually evaporate without fresh water – we humans tend to go dry without fresh experiences and insights.

Those who are wise put their knowledge of themselves to work for them to live the life they were put here to lead.

Wisdom generally is not acquired in large doses. It is dispensed little by little. Your experience working The Project is showing that.

You started small: you decided you wanted and were entitled to the life you were put on this planet to lead. That is one small nugget of wisdom. It is a significant nugget, too, a line of demarcation in your life like few others, separating the you that was wandering to the you that is on your path.

The Project demands that you find out where your heart is telling you to go. When you find this out – and it can be more difficult than it sounds – you gain more wisdom. And you will continue to gain wisdom as you continue on your path – wisdom about yourself and wisdom about your fellow humans.

As you gain time on your path, you will gain the wisdom that comes from knowing that a life spent on your path simply cannot be futile. How can it be? You have mastered your heart, trusted your inner self, and discovered the life you are meant to live. You have gained the wisdom to spend your time mastering the talents you were issued at birth.

Bit by bit, you are coming to know yourself, the ultimate wisdom.

One thing we talk about regularly here at The Project – to the extent we might even be harping on it – is that all of us must have the wisdom to know what we are about.

Wisdom means knowing the life we are meant to live. It is the foundation of The Project, because without it courage and patience are not going to do you any good.

How exactly do you find the life you are meant to live? You listen to your heart. This is both easy and hard.

It’s easy because your heart knows the life you are meant to live and has been trying to steer you toward it since diapers. It’s hard, though, because sometimes we are too focused on outside influences. We let the superfluous take precedence and we pass our time with revels and amusements which do not produce a dividend.

Those on The Project put work into knowing themselves, because they know a good life stems from this. They listen to their hearts and they’ve looked inside to know and feel what they are about. This is wisdom.

When we talk about wisdom here at The Project, we’re not talking about some obscure concept or knowledge of esoteric elements. We are referring to the wisdom that comes from knowing oneself.

Wisdom is nothing more than knowledge you put to work for you. For The Project, that means putting your knowledge of yourself to work to build the life you were put here to lead.

This is both easy and hard. Easy, because all you have to do is listen to your heart; it’s telling you which course to steer. Hard, because sometimes our heart is telling us to go against the grain, or to chart a course others frown on.

Our hearts first started speaking to us when we were kids, when we went to bed at night, dreaming of doing something. Now, as we get older, our hearts no longer tell us to go win Olympic medals or to play guitars at loud volumes, but they are steering us to the course we were put on this earth to lead.

Friends, there are still dreams to chase and attainments to try for, dreams and aspirations appropriate for our age. Wisdom is hearing what our heart is telling us to do. To truly know ourselves, we must listen to our hearts.

Friends, wisdom can be a daunting road for some. There are those who think of wisdom as unattainable, something reserved exclusively for those with many college degrees or those sitting under trees with long beards.

Nothing is further from the truth. Wisdom is nothing more than putting knowledge to work for you. We get wisdom by making sure we know what we should know and what we want to know.

The most important thing all of us should want to know is ourselves.

Knowing ourselves allows us to break away from the herd and chart our own course. We are liberated from fitting into the slots others have assigned us. When we do this, we are on our path and living the life we are meant to live.

When we know ourselves, we know the life the we are meant to live. A well-lived life stems from this, a life where we are looking back on and forward to time well spent, and not time squandered.

Friends, Wisdom is the fundamental element of the Project: those who get on in this life have the wisdom to know what they are about. The foundation of a well-lived life comes from knowing the life we are meant to live.
